What matters before filing
The rules of the national zones differ from the international ones; the main points are below.
Registration term
A name is registered for one year with the option to renew. The expiry date is recorded in the registry and tracked by the provider.
Cyrillic names
Names in the .РФ zone are stored in the registry in punycode. Checking and paperwork are handled without the client.
Price and renewal
Registration and renewal are charged alike. The price is fixed for the paid period.
Delegation
The domain starts working once NS servers are set. The values come from the client or their contractor.
Documents
The contract is signed before the request is filed. Foreign applicants receive a bilingual version.
The name is taken
If the name you want is registered, the lookup shows its expiry date and the date it becomes available. For names about to be released a request can be filed in advance.

The .RU zone is used by most projects, .РФ is meant for Cyrillic names, and .SU remains a historical zone with a limited set of available names.
The registry processes the request within one business day. The domain becomes reachable after delegation and DNS propagation.
The domain is put under deadline control. Notices about the approaching expiry date are sent 90, 60, 30, 14, 7 and 1 day in advance.
